We’ve covered lots of different Home Skincare Remedies in past weeks and this week is no different. We will be looking at how to make an Oat, Milk and Honey Face Mask and the benefits of this delectable treat on your skin.
Benefits of Oats for the Skin
Oats are a much used and loved ingredient in many skincare products. Not only do they provide a great source of exfoliation for the face, they have some other surprising benefits too.
Oats are fantastic for helping to improve the skin’s overall complexion. Boosting collagen they aid in reducing redness and inflammation of the skin. As well as the afore mentioned perks that you get from oats, they are great for leaving the skin clean, with added protection and nourished with their moisturising properties.
Benefits of Milk for the Skin
Like oats, milk has a number of wonderful uses that help make our skin feel and look better.
A fantastic cleanser and toner, milk also ticks the box for aiding exfoliation, which is an amazing triple threat when choosing this ingredient. It also helps to fight acne! However, milk has a lot of additional rewards that may be rather surprising.
If you remember your history, Cleopatra was famed for bathing in milk. This could be because of the deeply moisturising properties it holds and the fact that milk can help fight the signs of aging. It leaves your skin bright and glowing, improving your complexion on many levels.
Finally, milk is brilliant for helping soothe and calm red, damaged skin, including sunburn.
Benefits of Honey for the Skin
Honey, the final of our trio is nothing to be sniffed at, unless of course you like the smell!
Intensely hydrating and moisturising, honey helps the skin to feel nourished, whilst fighting the signs of premature ageing, as well as leaving the skin lighter and brighter.
It helps to fight acne and its antimicrobial benefits work against breakouts of most kinds, for a clearer, refreshed complexion.
Unassuming as honey seems initially, it is again a wonderful exfoliator that is perfect for the face and helps to clean pores.
How to Make an Oat, Milk & Honey Face Mask
You will need
- A small saucepan
- Wooden spoon
- 60ml of water – this can be increased should you want a looser mask
- 120ml of milk
- 120g oats
- 1tbl spoon of pure honey
Heat all of the ingredients in a saucepan for 5 minutes. Ensure that you stir at regular intervals to prevent burning and do this over a low heat. Remove the mask from the heat and leave it to cool down.
How to Apply the Mask
You can use the mask warm, but ensure it is cool enough throughout the entire mask, so there are no surprises when you apply it.
The mask can be applied on it’s own, or with the added benefit of a layer of honey first. Smooth the mask over your face, avoiding the eye area and leave for 15 minutes.
Remove the mask with a warm, damp flannel for refreshed, nourished and beautiful skin!
You can even store this in the fridge for up to a week.
