It feels like a lifetime ago that we began this exciting series, looking at how to build up a skincare routine that suits you, your budget and energy. We have covered so many different areas, ingredients and benefits throughout our previous 9 steps! It’s almost a wonder there is anything left to say. There is though! Today we are adding our final step in the Buildable Skincare Routine, creams for the eyes.
So far…
During this series we have looked at 9 different steps, on our way to a 10 step skincare routine. Of course, as we’ve explained, you can add whichever steps you wish. There are no rules or obligations.
So far we have looked at:
It’s All in the Eyes
Yes, the eyes are said to be the window to the soul. They deserve as much looking after as the rest of our bodies. It seems much of the time when we are stress, tired or unwell, the first area to show the signs is the eyes!
We can end up with dark circles, they can look tired and withdrawn, puffy and red. So much is presented through the eyes. So, what can we do to help our peepers? We can add an eye cream to our Buildable Skincare Routine.
The Benefit of Eye Creams
Eye creams are created specifically with eyes in mind. This means they tend to have gentler ingredients that won’t irritate or aggravate the delicate eye area.
Much like products intended for lips or fine lines, eye creams are formulated specifically for this area. Where a moisturiser may contain anti-aging properties, these will differ form the ones contained in an eye specific product.
Eye creams are deeply nourishing, helping to keep the area under the eye smooth, plump and in most cases firm.
Which One do I Choose?
Just like every other element in skincare, eye creams are a very personal choice. There are creams for fighting the signs of aging. Ones that tackle dryness and sensitivity. There are others that focus on dark circles and some that battle puffy red eyes. It’s all dependant on what you need.
For this step you want to try to focus on your main concern with your eyes. If dark circles are an issue, then a cream that targets dark circles will benefit more than one that fights aging.
However, sometimes, as with anything in life, there are times when you have a different issue such as red puffy eyes. It is a good idea to have a couple of option within your skincare products. I personally have creams for both and use the best one for my current needs.
When to Apply an Eye Cream
This will depend on the type of eye cream you are using. Any and all can be applied after you have moisturised, so right at the very end of your skincare routine.
However, there is the option to apply eye cream that is lighter than your moisturiser, before this last step. If you do decide to pop it on first, just make sure you allow the cream to be absorbed into the skin before moisturising.
And, that’s it!! Our Buildable Skincare Routine series is finished. Of course there are many options that you can pick from when curating your own routine.
