Probably the easiest to set up, a movie night can be a wonderful way to spend the evening with your family. Cosy blankets, popcorn and cuddles are an absolute winner each and every time.

Now, we can not help you with picking the movie of the night though. Try to be flexible, even in the face of being asked to watch Frozen for the 100th time.

You can always take movie night a step further and make the entire night themed. Take for example Elf, a brilliant Christmas film. There are countless ways that you can get in the mood and create your entire night around the film. Elf hats, jingle bells, Elf Bingo, themed food and snacks and much more. You can even decorate to match the movie, make some movie tickets and take lots of silly pictures.

Not always possible, but definitely one to plan for. Choosing a favourite restaurant, go to the cinema or take in a game of bowling. There are lots of ways to get out of the house with the family for an evening of enjoyment. Even if you go to a fast food restaurant and take in the Christmas lights, it still counts.

This night has lots of opportunities and so much scope, it may be hard to decide what to do first. So much of our lives are prepackaged and ready to go, that we don’t spend much time anymore creating for ourselves.

A family creative night could open up your eyes to new hobbies, likes, dislikes and new found connectitions. It can take many forms too! Cooking from scratch, building Lego, drawing funny pictures, designing a board game, trying a new hobby or craft, the possibilities are endless.

Surprise Night

Depending on your take regarding the word surprise, this could mean many things. We have two ways to do Surprise Night. This is easier if the children are older, if you have little ones then you can just surprise them!

Taking it in Turns

This one is simple, take turns to plan a night full of surprises. This could be anything, perhaps a night out somewhere special, or maybe a night taste testing food from around the world. The rule here is to keep everything a secret until the big reveal.

This can be lots of fun and builds the excitment surrounding what you might end up spending Family Night doing.

Each bring something

Pick a theme for Family Night, it could be a colour, a country, a song, absolutely anything. Then each of you are given a task, pulled from a hat to bring something to Family Night relating to that theme. For example the theme may be Spain. Out of the hat you might pull food or games, music or decorations. Then you need to make or get something relating to Spain that falls under that category. You can include anything in the hat, outfits, food, snacks, music, films, traditions, holidays, toys, games and so on.

This can end up being hilarious and incredible fun. Say you get the colour purple, at first the idea of fulfilling a category and bringing something seems daunting. But, think about it and you can have lots of fun finding items that are purple..

These are just a few ideas to get you started on a wonderful tradition of spending time together as a family. It’s the perfect time of year to try this out, you could have a Elf themed night, or North Pole, the possibilities are endless.
