We have all been there. Life gets on top of you, it all feels too much and you just don’t know how to keep going. It’s not an uncommon feeling, life is demanding at the best of times. So, what do you do when it all starts to feel a bit overhelming?

Take a Step Back

The first thing you need to do is take a step back. Just sit for a while and work out what feels overwhelming. What is it that is stressing you out? What do you feel you aren’t able to cope with?

Give yourself this time to think things through and be aware of what is causing these emotions. Sometimes we just keep moving, one foot in front of the other. We feel more and more as if we are being dragged down into a pit, but keep moving forward. It’s important to keep going, but understanding where the emotion and anxiety is coming from will really help you to put things into perspective.

Talk to a Friend

Perspective is super important here and talking about your worries or stresses can help immeasurably. Now, it doesn’t have to be a friend, perhaps a loved one or even a helpline. You can find some helpful charities and organisations in our Therapy section.

Allowing yourself to talk things through with someone gives you a place not only to vent, which in itself can be empowering. It also helps you to organise your thoughts and explore what is causing you to feel so helpless.

Take Time for Yourself

Vital to a healthy mind is time for yourself. Expecially when you are feeling particularly low. You need to be able to process your feeling and gain a little of that enjoyment back in your life. So, leave the washing up tonight, those toys can be put away tomorrow, give yourself permission to just rest and be for a short time. Take some of that pressure away, we all do it, everything needs to be perfect and wonderful all the time. No actually, it doesn’t. Your best is good enough and not necessarily the same as your friend’s best, or your mum’s or that person you follow on Instagram!

Remember You are Enough

You are enough! You are important and loved! You are amazing, look at how far you have come, the things you have achieved. Take a look at your children and how incredible they are, you did that! You are everything you need to be and more, you just are unable to see it through the din of anxiety and stress.
