If you are looking for ways to get a positive, happy boost, then this is the article for you. There are plenty of ways you can achieve this. Try spending time with friends, donating to charity, taking on a new challenge, or practicing self-care.
There are many reasons why spending time with the people that you love can help improve your outlook and overall feeling of goodness. Our friends are a big part of our lives and they have a massive impact. Not only do they understand and accept you for who you are, a great confidence booster, they generally are happy when they are around us. Happiness and feeling good can be infectious, just like a smile!
Even though we might not always feel up to spending time with others, it can sometimes be just the tonic that we need.
Doing something for others is always great for your overall mental wellbeing. Helping others, donating to a good cause, spending time on a project or activity that is for the benefit of others does wonders for our confidence and mental health. There isn’t enough kindness in this world, but it is out there and there seems to be a real sense in society right now that there should be more of it, you only have to check social media and look at random acts of kindness.
You have to do it for the right reasons though, for the benefit of others. Going into something with the idea that it will benefit you, really detracts from the idea of helping those around you.
Whether you want to donate, help out in a local charity, show kindness to someone you come across or help out a friend, these random, and sometimes continued acts will do wonders for your internal happy meter. We have an article coming up that looks at some of the benefits of charities and how you can help, so keep an eye out in our Lifestyle section very soon!
Another fantastic way to get a little happy boost, or perhaps a big one, is to set yourself a challenge and complete it. This can be anything from reading a book you haven’t gotten around to, visiting a new place or perhaps fulfilling a dream.
We’re going to look more in depth at this soon, but giving yourself a task, no matter how small and then completing it will give you a fantastic sense of achievement. Think of those to-do lists you have lying around and how it feels to cross off one of the bullet points. It’s an amazing feeling, a sense of accomplishment that can turn around a bad day.
Self-care can take on many guises, and it is so important to spend that time on yourself for your own mental wellbeing.
It is easy in the busy, modern world that we live in today, to forget about ourselves and what we need to feel good. There are a whole host of ways to practice self-care, from looking after your body on the outside, eating healthier, spending time alone collecting your thoughts, not placing so much pressure on yourself, or even just picking on of the activities above would count.
We have come up with a something we feel covers a few, if not all of the areas above. The Wonderment team have been set a challenge, to spend the day together searching the local charity shops with £10, to see what bargains are to be had, whilst helping some good causes.
We’re pretty sure it will be a fun day and hopefully we will grab a bargain or two, the only caveat is that anything we buy must be in keeping with our ethos, positive mental health and finding the wonder in the world around us! Don’t forget to check back soon in our Lifestyle section to see how we get on.
