The weather has been what we might call slightly chaotic here in the UK recently, blazing hot sun, chilly winds and now torrential rain fall. The weather can drastically affect our moods and in turn our mental health, so today we thought we would brighten up things a little with a competition to win this stunning Sunshine on a Rainy Day pendant and earring jewellery set.

There are many reasons why the weather can affect your mood and in some instances it can be quite drastic. Many of us find that during the winter months we are less motivated and lack energy, meaning we have lower moods and feel less than positive about the world around us. Likewise, during the hotter months our bodies find it difficult to deal with the heat and we may become irritable and withdrawn.

There is even a mental health condition that is a kind of depression that can affect some people, called SAD – Seasonal Affective Disorder.

During the colder, darker winter months, people with SAD can find themselves suffering with lower moods, lack of motivation or interest in things, feeling worthless, being lethargic, putting on weight due to cravings for ‘comfort foods’, being irritable and have difficulty concentrating.

The reason for this is believed to be the brain producing lower levels of the hormones that help us sleep and promote a feeling of happiness. This is alongside our internal body clock being thrown off by the change in the amount of daylight we experience.

If you think that you may suffer with SAD, or are suffering mentally due to the extreme weather changes then please do seek out the advice of a GP. It is always better to have a chat with a professional and seek that help.

There are all manner of options to help you when it comes to the weather and wanting to improving your mood and mental health during those difficult times. Here are just a few ideas…
